Detroit Suburbs Murals

These murals were commissioned by St Joe Hospital in Oakland, Michigan. The murals are located in the cafeteria. They are painted on aluminum panels and mounted in alcoves around the room. The subject matter was chosen by the hospital from a series of drawings submitted to them. These were incredible subjects to paint. I visited each site and did a great deal of research before deciding on the final form. For Comerica Park I decided to use the older scoreboard. The more modern rectangular one is great for a digital display on the field, but did not provide as beautiful a form in a painting. I selected the best light for each subject. Most of the time, I like to set my paintings during the golden glow just before sunset. The conservatory at Belle Isle was best during the day, but still shows a golden sun glow on the dome.
