The Dexter Bakery (Dexter, Michigan) contacted me because their building was going to be repainted and the mural that had been on the building for nearly half a century was going to be destroyed. I asked them if they wanted me to restore it, but the owner asked for a new design that made it look like the bakery had a side window full of goodies. Since I love Trompe l’oeil, I was excited to design something for her. This was a daunting task, because if the mural was unpopular, there would be an outcry about the removal of the historic mural. Fortunately, the response has been great from the public.
The finished mural really does require a double take because if you are sitting at the stoplight, the awning really does look real.
Here I am putting on the finishing touches.
