I was asked to create something for this location that would inspire people to want to get out into nature again. This is a sports rehabilitation facility for people with debilitating injuries, or people with age related injuries. I decided to do a nature scene for every season in Michigan, but because there was only one wall, I separated the murals into “windows” and painted an opening for each. The staff was very excited about the work as it replaced a mural with out of proportion people that they had lived with for a long time. The following photo shows the winter image with some of the walkers that are left around the room to aid the patients. I placed the murals above these to avoid damage to the images.
The following is a close up of the fall scene. I decided to make the river the joining factor in all the murals, plus I matched the horizon line on all of them so that when you view all four panels, there is harmony from one to the next.
The murals are located on the first floor of the University Hospital at UofM Medical Hospital in Ann Arbor. The rehab room is just past the cafeteria from the lobby.
